Hydra is a fresh water metazoan of the phylum Cnidaria which is the first phylum to have a nervous system. Comparing the nervous system of cnidarians vs. bilaterians will help to reconstruct the early events of the nervous system evolution. Hanan’s aim is to find a pan-neuronal marker for hydra. Knowledge of a pan-neuronal marker will aid to understand the relation between neurons and behavior by recording activity from all neurons during a particular behavior.
